The Peugeot 2008 painted with “Firebird” from Boris Bućan: an art-car for a humanitarian project

Peugeot Croatia has for the second year in a row launched a humanitarian project wherebya car is made available to an artist, who turns it into a work of art. The unique vehicleis then sold and the proceeds are donated to the Croatian Mine Action Centre. Lastyear we raised over Kn 300,000 in this way, which allowed us to demine 20,000m2 in themunicipality of Jasenice in Zadar County. It is estimated that about 670 km2 ofCroatia’s territory is still infested with approximatively 74,000 landmines. Our goal for this year remains unchanged, but our ambitions are much greater. BorisBućan, the renowned Croatian artist, has responded to the challenge by adjusting hismythical Firebird to be reproduced on the nearrire-bucanw Peugeot 2008.

Boris Bućan is among the most prominent Croatian visual artists, a painter and graphic designer. His works are currently on display at numerous museums worldwide, most notably at MoMA and Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York, Staatliches Museum für Angewandte Kunst in Munich and le Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. The artist was born in Zagreb in 1947. He studied painting at the Academy of Visual Arts in Zagreb, graduated in 1972 and made his debut on the domestic art scene in the late 1970s by staging spatial interventions in the city. Bućan has had over 70 independent exhibitions so far and over 160 c2008-bucanollective exhibitions, the best-known being the Venice Biennale 1984 and the Milan Triennale 1992.
