You may not have noticed, but very little has been written about the graphic, industrial and architectural design of Bosnia and Herzegovina, once a spoke in the Yugoslav nation. Sarajevo-based designer and professor of industrial design Asim Đelilović just published Museum in Exile, a brand new history of this hot-button region. Limited availability of historical materials seems not to have hindered his account from the Austro-Hungarian turn of the century, through Communist times to the present. His mission to expand the range of this history is important and admirable. For some design historians he may have filled in a few gaps. Copies of the book can be purchased in English here. Or downloaded here. Below is an evolutionary selection of graphic design, showing how Bosnia and Herzegovina’s styles echoed those in the rest of Europe.
